What would a train do if he was freed from his tracks? What would a train do if it smoked crack? Could a train, if he was desperate enough, rob another train at knifepoint in the darkness? Tommy Off The Rails addresses these big life questions and more. Our protagonist, the young and hopeful Tommy, pauses at a railroad crossing in a moment of self-doubt. Which way should he go? Before he can decide, up wanders a boisterous, filthy gang of vagabonds who offer him a sip from their flask of "hobo punch" if he will let them ride in his storage car. He accepts their offer, they climb on board, and takes a sip. The camera zooms in on Tommy's face. Drums pound. A wild look races across his face right as the camera fades.
