Alice's Flowers

My friend Alice is a flower princess (AKA floral designer). I visited her at her lovely home in Cleveland last week and drew some arrangements she had around the house.

This is the sunset song! Alice and I sometimes say these words when we watch the departure of our good friend The Sun.

You are a cat and I am a dog

Yesterday was my darling friend Alice's birthday. Alice is the most joyful and shiny human being. She's so shiny, in fact, that nesting birds often try to pick her up to decorate their nests. No bird has been actually strong enough to carry her off (yet). Regardless, it's pretty frightening for Alice, and I usually chase them away while barking like a dog.

Which brings me to my next point: Alice is a cat and I am a dog and we are friends. I made some art which reflects this.

That's dog-me on the left, cat-Alice on the right.
This is actually how we dress/seem most of the time to me.
This might be the 'cutest' thing i have ever drawn while remaining sincere.
This is very surreal for me.
[inspiration clearly from Arthur & Bearenstein bears]

I was lucky enough to spend Alice's birthday with her yesterday. We hung out with her family, went to the skatepark, painted our nails, had a bonfire, ate fruit gushers, melted crayons, and played Fax Machine, the greatest game ever.
(fax machine is basically what it sounds like - picture telephone. one person writes a sentence, the next person must draw that sentence. the next person writes a sentence based on the drawing, and so on.)
Here are some highlights from our game:

In summary, dogs and cats can be friends and fruit gushers are really really good. love you alice!

Cosmic on Clarke Street

Alice and I sit on the couch in my new apartment and drink ginger tea and look out the window as cats and people and rain go by.  Boxes of books, half-unpacked, scatter the floor. The music playing in the other room is perfect in its elsewhereness. This moment is exciting and vast, and we take notice.

looking like things

Hallie: Is it possible for someone to look Christian?
Alice: Yes.
H: Do I look like a Christian to you?
A: No.
H: Do I look Jewish?
A: No.
H: Do I look like… an atheist?
A: Yes.
H: Ha!

(ps. Alice can look you in the eye while looking at her own eye with her other eye.)

Hallie: hellooo!

Alice: Hello

Hallie: Hey there! remember me?

Alice: vaguely

Hallie:I used to babysit you when you were little.
You probably don't really remember me
I didn't have a beard back then
i'm a bit heavier set now
Goddamn.
You sure have grown up
You used to be such a little brat.
You seem like you're less of a brat now
But i can't be too sure, i've only been talking to you for a few seconds.
You used to take sips of my beers remember?
One time I just gave you a beer.
You didn't really like it….
Say, I'm having trouble finding a job..
You don't by any chance need a babysitter do ya?
Of course I'd have to charge you more than I did when you were 6
you're a lot more to handle now, if you know what i mean!
heh
heh heh

Alice: are you done yet?

Hallie: yeah.
how are you?

27.5.10

HALLIE: How much fun do you have?
ALICE: A lot.
HALLIE: HOW MUCH?
ALICE: What do you mean? How do I measure that?
HALLIE (holding a banana): Measure it in bananas.
ALICE: A heap. A heapful of bananas.
HALLIE: ...that's a lot.
